The World Tunnel Congress (WTC 2023), held May 12-18, 2023, at the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre and organized by CONVIN S.A., was concluded with great success.
Athens welcomed more than 2000 delegates and journalists from all over the world for the World Tunnel Congress 2023 (WTC2023), the largest international technical conference ever organized in Greece.
In a particularly enthusiastic atmosphere, the opening ceremony took place on Monday, May 15, in which the Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, and the General Secretary of Infrastructure, Maria-Elli Gerardi, addressed a greeting welcoming all the participants and underlining the significance of organizing such an event in Greece.
WTC 2023 highlighted the multiple advantages and solution that underground space can provide, and the prospect of a whole new era of smart technology where sophisticated digital tools change investigation, design, construction & operations methods, and strategies rapidly.
More than 120 sponsors and exhibitors at the conference presented all the technological developments as grandiose projects are now planned at greater depths and under even more difficult conditions. Delegates and journalists had the opportunity to take part in technical visits as exciting tunneling, and underground excavations projects are currently taking place in Attica.
In the context of the Conference’s Social Responsibility, delegates participated in a Symbolic Marathon to support the brave children of ELEPAP (Rehabilitation of the Disabled). The activity was held on May 18th at the unique monument of Panathenaic Stadium which served for the revival of the Olympic Games.
The global community embraced the Greek organization, and its success proves how many important things can be achieved with multiple benefits for the entire country.
