Scientific congresses are important events that are mostly organized by scientific associations to bring together researchers and scientists from different fields and to present and discuss new discoveries and research results.
Teaching and learning take place in a university, and often a scientific congress takes place in a scientific environment, namely a university. Back to the Roots.
Certainly, the implementation and organization is not easier than in a professional congress center, but it has advantages, both for the organizers, the university as well as the congress participants.
- Connecting with the academic community: Hosting congresses in universities provides an excellent opportunity for participants to connect with the academic community. This can lead to new partnerships and collaborations that are beneficial to both the university and congress participants.
- Cost-effectiveness: The use of the university space and resources can help reduce the cost of hosting a congress. This can contribute to lower attendee fees for congress participants and the ability to reach more participants.
- Academic reputation: Hosting congresses can help strengthen the university´s reputation in the academic community. This can lead to more researchers and scholars considering the university as a partner or host for their own event.
- Encouraging cooperation: Congresses at universities can help encourage cooperation between faculties and the departments of the university. This can help improve the interdisciplinary cooperation and create new ideas and projects.
CPO HANSER SERVICE was the organizer of this year´s DGKN 2023 congress (DGKN German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology and Functional Neuroimaging) at the University Medical Center Eppendorf (short: UKE) in Hamburg with 1,100 participants from 23 countries. Five session halls and numerous smaller rooms for workshops were used.
A (non-scientific) highlight of the congress was the typical Hanseatic social evening on the museum ship Rickmer Rickmers. The three-master from the 19th century is one of Hamburg´s landmarks and is firmly anchored on the famous Landungsbrücken (“landing bridges”) of the port of Hamburg. An evening on the Rickmer Rickmers is an unforgettable experience that brings the guests closer to the maritime history and flair of the port of Hamburg. The different decks of the ship were explored – from the captain´s cabin to the engine room – while enjoying the view over the harbor. The maritime buffet was very popular amongst the guests.
Hermann Hanser, Managing Shareholder CPO HANSER SERVICE: “It was a great pleasure for us to be able to organize the DGKN23 in a scientific environment in our hometown Hamburg. And it was a special challenge for us to optimally implement and execute the congress in a university hospital.”
